Convention of the Descendants of the Vilna Gaon
(of blessed and saintly memory).
To all the descendants of the Vilna Gaon and his siblings:
Rabbi Eliyahu the son of Shlomo Zalman, the Gaon of Vilna, the "Gra" (1720-1797) is considered to be one of the greatest Jewish scholars of the last thousand years. He was the most famous rabbi in Lithuania. The Gaon is regarded as one of the foremost experts on Jewish religious law since Maimonides (the Rambam).
His scholarship and phenomenal memory were of incredible proportions. He engaged in every aspect of Jewish scholarship and left notes which were published as his books by his students after his death.
The Vilna Gaon excelled in Jewish religious law (Halakhah) as well as mysticism (Kabalah) and used his study of secular sciences such as geometry, algebra, geography, grammar and even music in order to deepen his understanding of Jewish studies.
It is claimed that he remembered by heart and could quote freely from every book he had ever read.
A convention of the Vilna Gaon's descendants is being planned to take place in about one year's time.
There are thousands of descendants of the Gaon, his brothers and sister, living in Israel, Europe, the United Sates, Canada, Australia and elsewhere.
We invite all of the family to participate in this large convention in Jerusalem, Israel, the city which the Gaon longed to reach during his lifetime.
Whoever is interested in taking part in this convention is invited to leave a message here and we will contact them.
